Local non-profit held event to promote quality, affordable health care in Oklahoma
(June 3, Oklahoma City) -- More than 300 people gathered for the Variety Show 2016 to support Variety Care’s mission of making quality, affordable health care accessible in Oklahoma. The sixth annual event was held at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and featured themed entertainment, dining, and atmosphere designed to virtually transport guests to San Antonio and New Orleans.
The evening "A Taste for Travel" featured food and music from San Antonio and New Orleans. As guests and patrons were seated for dinner, the evening culminated with a true variety show directed by Jay Ferguson featuring live music and vocal performances from local talent with an arcing story line that highlighted the importance of health care in our lives from the moment we are born into our old age.
“This year's event was beautifully led by event co-chairs Amy Dunn and Leigh Ann Albers,” said Lou Carmichael, CEO of Variety Care. Both Amy and Leigh Ann are members of the Variety Care Foundation Board of Directors. “Without philanthropic giving, Variety Care could not provide the services we do for so many Oklahomans. We are grateful to all who sponsored and made donations at the event.”
Hundreds of thousands of people across Oklahoma struggle to find a way to access health care in their communities. Many go without the medical attention they need, because they simply don’t have access to quality health care that they can afford. Putting off care leads to many poor outcomes, continuing the cycle of poverty and poor health. Variety Care’s staff of 400+ Oklahomans works every day to provide care for those in our community who need it most.
In a year with so many health and social service cuts and economic uncertainty, charitable giving has never been more important.
About Variety Care (www.varietycare.org): Variety Care is Oklahoma’s largest community health center with sixteen health care facilities in central, south and western Oklahoma. In 2015, Variety Care provided medical, dental, behavioral health, discounted pharmacy, case management and social services to 88,795 men, women, and children.
The entire family can access affordable care at Variety Care. A United Way partner agency, Variety Care serves patients with insurance and without insurance and strives to make quality health care affordable and accessible for all patients.
