Linda Schulz
Board Chair

Linda Schulz is Senior Vice President with Arvest Bank.

Linda has been a board member since the foundation’s inception in 2009 and currently serves in a two-year position as foundation chairman of the board, ending in June 2012. She says she admires the board’s passion for the mission and that each board member has been instrumental in extending that passion by recruiting new board members, driving the capital campaign, reaching out to the community and supporting the organization. She believes all selfless endeavors are worthwhile, and she’s enjoyed committing herself to actively supporting the mission of Variety Care.

"I believe health care is so basic to our success in everything else we do and that it’s something all families should feel they can access for their children – it’s a basic human right to have access to health care. And I truly enjoy working with an organization where I can really and truly have an impact.”

As board chair, Linda is a member of all standing committees, and currently leads on the following committees and task forces:

  • Executive Committee, Chair

  • Capital Campaign Leadership Team, Campaign Co-Chair

  • Executive Director Selection Committee, Chair

  • The Variety Show Planning Team

Cheryl Vaught is an attorney with Vaught and Connor, PLLC.

Cheryl became a board member in 2009. She has served as liaison between the community health center and foundation boards and uses her years of experience on various national boards to help raise funds locally for Variety Care. She believes the community health center and the foundation are critical components of the health care arena in Oklahoma.

“If we didn’t have non-discriminatory entities that provide services to elderly, children and anyone who can’t otherwise receive medical services, it would cause a huge gap. We have the ability to help keep people healthy in Oklahoma City and beyond. After being involved in national boards, it’s important to me to be involved here locally in a hands-on way”

Cheryl currently serves on the following committees and task forces:

  • Executive Committee, Vice Chair

  • Governance Committee, Chair

  • Executive Director Selection Committee

She has also been a member of the Capital Campaign Leadership Team. Having worked as a Registered Nurse and also with at-risk youth, involvement in Variety Care is a great combination of her passions that she finds very rewarding.

“Variety Care serves a need for patients that deserve care but have not received it because they are uninsured or underinsured. I became involved with the foundation because I feel like I can make a difference, especially with my background in nursing. The reward of seeing what is accomplished through our efforts is astounding.”

Leigh Ann is currently involved in the following committees and task forces:

  • Executive Committee

  • Capital Campaign Leadership Team

  • The Variety Show Planning Team

  • Quality Committee

During her time on the foundation board, she has chaired the planning committee for the Variety Show, the annual spring fundraising event, for three years. She says she joined the foundation board because she believes in the mission.

“Access to health care is critical in building a healthy community. We need to keep Oklahomans out of the emergency rooms and give them access to the preventative care they need. I became involved with the Variety Care Foundation because I believe we can effectively provide comprehensive, affordable health care to Oklahomans.”

Ann is currently involved in the following committees and task forces:

  • Executive Committee

  • Finance Committee

  • Investment Committee

  • Capital Campaign Leadership Team

  • The Variety Show Planning Team

Gloria Barton

Gloria Barton

Gloria Barton is a former Dean of Admissions with Oklahoma City Community College.

Gloria joined the Variety Care Foundation when it was developed in 2009 after serving on the Variety Health Center board since 2000. As a foundation board member, she has chaired the governance committee, helped set up the foundation bylaws and assisted in boosting membership. She says she can’t think of a more worthwhile organization to give her time, efforts and money to, and encourages others to get involved.

“One of the most important things we do as board members is recruit more cheerleaders for our purpose. The more our board members and advocates spread the word, the more people will know about us and the exceptional work we do. Larger numbers of community advocates will help Variety Care positively change the state of health care in Oklahoma.”

Gloria currently serves on the Governance Committee and The Variety Show Planning Team.

Sally Bentley

Sally Bentley

Sally joined the foundation board in July 2011 and serves as a co-chair for the foundation’s Capital Campaign. She says she has enjoyed watching Variety Care’s reach and services expand over the years.

“Since the merger, Variety Care has become a health care home for patients of all ages. There’s such a need in the community for older people who aren’t able to get the services they need elsewhere. Variety Care has been able to help fill some very large health care voids in the community, making it an even more compelling mission to be involved in.”

Sally currently serves on the following committees and task forces:

  • Executive Committee

  • Governance Committee

  • Capital Campaign Leadership Team

Donna Brogan, RDH

Donna Brogan, RDH

Donna Brogan is a registered dental hygienist and a dental hygiene educator at OUHSC.

Donna joined the foundation board in June 2011 and currently serves as co-chair of The Variety Show Planning Team. She hopes to expand the dentistry services at Variety Care to give Oklahomans, with and without dental care insurance, more access to high-quality, cost-efficient dental care.

“When taking a tour of one of the Variety Care facilities, it struck me how committed the community health centers are to prevention. Dental issues are 100 percent preventable. There’s a crisis in this country with us only treating what is wrong with people, but it’s less invasive and more cost-effective to prevent disease rather than waiting to treat it. The preventative services are what make Variety Care unique.”

Donna currently serves on the Variety Show Planning Team as co-chair.

Cheryl Borelli

Cheryl Borelli

Cheryl Borelli is Senior Vice President of BancFirst.

Cheryl has been a foundation board member since the development of the Variety Care Foundation in 2009 and has been involved with the center since the early 1980s. She has played an important role on the board introducing key community members to Variety Care’s mission and securing major financial contributions to the foundation. She says her passion for helping others stems from her mother’s commitment to the community.

“Growing up the child of a nurse, I saw first-hand that every person deserves access to health care. The fact that we have people in the community who have to visit the emergency room for primary care is unacceptable. Variety Care fills the gap for those people and gives them the opportunity to receive the comprehensive care they need.”

Cheryl currently serves on the following committees and task forces:

  • Finance Committee

  • Audit Committee

  • Capital Campaign Leadership Team

Amy Dunn

She says she looks forward to expanding Variety Care’s reach in the community and serving more patients in the future.

“Many people who are the backbone of the Oklahoma economy don’t have access to quality health care. It’s important we provide everyone in the state with affordable health care services to improve the well-being of each Oklahoman and the state as a whole.”

Amy currently serves on the Variety Show Planning Team.

Her board term expires in June 2013.

Mark Gautreaux

Mark has been a member of the foundation board since its inception in 2009. In addition to acting as chair for the Investment Committee, he has been involved in policy formation and has actively participated in the Variety Show, the foundation’s annual spring fundraiser. He says he believes that Variety Care is an integral part in overcoming Oklahoma’s health care challenges and making the necessary improvements to better serve the state.

“I really believe this organization is a big part of the solution to the health care crisis across the state. Effective nonprofit community health centers like Variety Care can pick up the slack that the government seems unable to contend with on its own.”

Mark currently serves on the Executive Committee and the Investment Committee.

His term ends in June 2012.

Bill N. Haycraft Jr.

Bill N. Haycraft Jr.

Bill Haycraft is President of Frontier State Bank.

Bill joined the Variety Care Foundation board at the time of it’s creation in 2009, and has since utilized his background in the banking industry to provide insight while serving on the finance committee and assisting with raising funds. He says his enthusiasm for the foundation is rooted in his desire to help the children in the Oklahoma City community get the health care they deserve.

“I’m a big softie at heart when it comes to kids. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a healthy child and access to high-quality health care, and most people take that for granted. But there are less fortunate people in Oklahoma who are denied basic health care, which is why Variety Care’s mission is vital to the health of our community.”

Bill currently serves on the Finance Committee.

His board term expires in June 2014.

Linda Howell

Linda Howell

Linda Howell is President of Linda Howell Associates, Inc.

Linda has been a part of the foundation board since its formation in 2009 and has enjoyed recruiting other members and spreading the word about Variety Care’s mission. She has hosted lunch and learns, given center tours and assisted in raising money to promote the center and its benefits to the community. She says she became passionate about joining the board after learning about Variety Care over lunch with a friend.

“I attended a Variety Health Care luncheon with Linda Schulz where I heard physicians and nurses from Oklahoma Heath Sciences Center explain their association with Variety. After the lunch, I was hooked and knew that’s where I wanted to spend my volunteer hours.”

Russell Rother, PhD

Russell Rother, PhD

Russell Rother is Chief Operating Officer of Selexys Pharmaceuticals.

Russell joined the Foundation Board in June 2011 and says that he looks forward to contributing to the vision of the organization. He anticipates that his most significant contribution as a board member will be to identify measurable health-related criteria that will provide donors with tangible data illustrating the life-changing assistance given to patients at Variety Care. He hopes that this data will help to retain current donors as well as attract new support for the foundation’s mission.

“I hope to utilize my scientific expertise to provide a conduit between Variety Care’s operations and the foundation. It’s important for some donors to not only know which projects are being funded with their contributions, but also to see favorable outcomes when these projects reach fruition.”

Russell is currently serving on the Investment Committee.

His board term expires in June 2014.

Marcia Sauzek

Marcia Sauzek

She has been an integral part of the Variety Show, the foundation’s annual fundraising event, by planning, raising awareness and even performing a dance number in 2010. She serves on the board because of the valuable role the foundation plays in the community.

“It goes back to a personal interest in being healthy and having others around me healthy. Health plays a vital role in one’s ability to learn, grow and contribute to society. If people cannot take care of themselves physically, mentally and emotionally, it limits their ability to impact our community for the better.”

Marcia is currently serving on the Governance Committee and the Variety Show Planning Team.

Her board term expires in June 2013.

Linda Scoggins

Linda Scoggins

Linda Scoggins is a principal attorney with Scoggins and Cross.

Since the inception of the Variety Care Foundation board in 2009, Linda has supported the capital campaign as an active board member and was vice chair for June 2010 – 2011. After years of serving on the Variety Care Board, she says she chose to also join the Variety Care Foundation Board because it makes her proud to serve and know she’s making a difference in the community.

“This organization is not satisfied with the number of patients falling through the cracks in the health care system, and in this day and age, that number seems to be increasing. The foundation offers support for the high-quality care that’s provided by Variety Care, and once people get involved and see what the center employees do on daily basis, they will understand the importance of our mission.”

Linda is currently involved in the Governance Committee and Capital Campaign Leadership Team.

Her board term expires in June 2014.

Gina Sewell

She says she believes strongly in Variety Care’s goal of providing quality affordable health care to all Oklahomans.

“Seeing people in the community that work so hard just to make a living and still have nowhere to go when they have health needs made me want to get involved and make a difference. Variety Care is a place where anyone can get the help they need and deserve – from prenatal to elderly services.”

Gina currently serves on the Executive Committee and the Audit Committee.

As a foundation board member, he uses his financial and management skills to assist with financial oversight of the foundation. He says he most looks forward to watching Variety Care continue to grow and meet the growing needs of the community.

“Access to heath care is a huge problem in our community and Variety Care steps into the gap to help those less fortunate solve their medical problems. I’ve seen the success of Variety Care over the last 30 years, but to continue to serve this growing population, we need community support.”

Marshall currently serves on the Audit Committee and Capital Campaign Leadership Team.

His board term expires in June 2014.

He says his professional experience increases his commitment to Variety Care’s goals and provides him with a testimony to explain how vital the health center is to the community.

“Being a physician at OU Children’s Hospital has allowed me to help the board further appreciate the medical responsibilities of Variety Care as a community health center, specifically in regard to serving children. Variety Care allows children throughout the state of Oklahoma to receive the care they need, which is something I am truly passionate about.”

John currently serves on the Finance Committee and the Audit Committee.

His board term expires in June 2012.
